Lloyd Signs With Interscope Records

Yesterday, MTV reported that singer Lloyd has inked a deal with Interscope Records. Formerly an artist signed to Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc., Lloyd spent most of his career at Universal Motown, where of recent, he began a strong association with Lil Wayne’s Young Money label.

Most notably, Lloyd had a heavy hand in 2009 hit “Bedrock” with the members of Young Money. “I love the way Interscope gets down. I love the way Jimmy [Iovine, label head] gets down. I’ve always had a good working relationship with Polow [da Don, producer]. Having that creative partner is something I wanted to have, since the very beginning, to have that one creative partner,” Lloyd told MTV.

The singer said he expects to release his first Interscope album this year, and said that his decision not to sign with Young Money had a lot to do with the fact that he would remain at Universal Motown.

Canadian Artists Remix K’Naan’s "Wavin Flag" In Support For Haiti

During this year’s Winter Olympics, K’Naan performed his Troubadour single “Wavin’ Flag” after the medal ceremonies in Vancouver. The spirit of the song caught the interest of music lovers and the record was recently selected as the official song for the next World Cup.

Now, Canadian artists have joined together to remix the record in an effort to raise funds for those still living in Haiti after January’s devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake. “I guess we’re all trying to somehow make sense of this world and the way it is, and why things happen to places and not to other places,” K’Naan told The Star. “I think in those times when we are questioning those things, we want to rid ourselves of the sadness, we want to do something. I wanted to do my part.”

57 Canadian artists, dubbed the Young Artists for Haiti, appeared on the song to offset the recent lack of news coverage surounding the island country. Drake, Kardinal Offishall, Nelly Furtado, and Avril Lavigne are just a few who appeared on the track. “It really is something when you hear everybody give the best of themselves to something. There’s this one line that the Broken Social Scene sing, it’s so beautiful. I think Drake really gave something to the song as well.”

The effort, which was spearheaded by legendary produer Bob Ezrin, is now available digitally.

(AllHipHop News) “Killing Me Softly” director Aswad Ayinde is being held on a $1 million bond after being charged with raping and fathering children from his own daughters. Ayinde, age 51 and also known as Charles McGill, faces 27 charges ranging from child endangerment to aggravated sexual assault. According to prosecutors, Ayinde’s daughters bore him six children from the mid 80’s through 2002. West Coast Veteran C.P.O. Tha Boss Hogg In Hospital From Heart Attack

Veteran west coast act C.P.O. (also known as Lil Nation) is reportedly in the hospital today, having suffered a heart attack. Details are still emerging, though several associates of the ’90s emcee told DX this afternoon.

Known for appearing on classic Rap albums such as N.W.A.’s Niggaz4Life, 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me, C.P.O. was a frequent associate of both N.W.A. and Death Row Records. He worked with the famed label on soundtracks such as Murder Was The Case and Above The Rim.

Signed to Capitol, C.P.O. (as Capital Punishment Organization) released one album, 1990’s To Hell And Black, which boasted production from N.W.A.’s MC Ren as well as late group partner DJ Train.

Last year, archival material from C.P.O. appeared on the Death Row/WIDE Awake Entertainment re-release of The Chronic and is working with Tha Chill on Chillafornia.

It appears that Death Row Records/WIDEawake Entertainment is still facing financial woes following their purchase of the label in early 2009.

The Wall Street Journal reports that New Solutions Capital Group, the company that helped WIDEawake finance the purchase of Death Row Records, is now in debt as a result of the purchase.

“If someone would pay the amount of the debt incurred plus a dollar, we’re out,” New Solutions Capital Group’s Robert Thompson-So told CanadianBusiness.com. “This is just another commercial loan transaction that started as a workout and continues to be a workout. Please - step up to the table and take us out.”

Aside from the debt incurred by the deal, New Solutions and WIDEawake are also battling over who gets control of Death Row.

In other Hip Hop news, the VH1 reality show Celebrity Rehab is hoping they can enlist rapper DMX for the next season of their show.

A lawyer for DMX, real name Earl Simmons, revealed to TMZ that a rep for the show reached out to him following the rapper’s arrest earlier this week.

The Celebrity Rehab rep is hoping that DMX can somehow be placed in their facility instead of being locked up. A rep for the show may possibly appear at DMX’s hearing to speak with a judge in regards to the rapper being brought to their facility.

Teen Arrested For Waka Flocka Concert Shooting; Also Charged With Murder

(AllHipHop News) A 17-year-old from Gary, Indiana faces multiple charges after being arrested in connection with a shooting after a Waka Flocka Flames concert at a local skating rink on March 5th.

Devontius Hutcherson, 17, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies for his role in the shooting last Friday.

He was also hit with murder and attempted murder charges for a separate shooting on January 19th in Miller, Indiana.

(AllHipHop News) Troubled rapper DMX may be rescued by addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky, according to reports. DMX was busted for violating his probation by using cocaine. He was sent to jail on Tuesday (March 9th), where he is being held without bond until a hearing on March 16th. (AllHipHop News) Superstar Hip-Hop producer Dr. Dre will be part of a $40 million dollar advertising campaign being launched by Hewlett-Packard this weekend.

The eight-week campaign is titled “Let’s Be Amazing” and features Dr. Dre, comedian Rhys Darby, photographer Annie Leibovitz and others.

The spots are part of Hewlett-Packard’s attempt to redefine itself to their consumer base, in addition to giving the company some “personality and distinction.”

La Coka Nostra & House Of Pain Go On March Tour

With Danny Boy, Everlast and DJ Lethal having roles in both groups, ’90s Rap hit-makers House of Pain are joining ’00s incarnation La Coka Nostra for a March tour. La Coka includes Ill Bill of DJ Eclipse of Non-Phixion fame, as well as Boston emcee Slaine.

The tour, which begings this evening in Chicago, also includes appearances from Cypress Hill’s B-Real, onetime Roots’ affiliate Rahzel and Rocksteady Crew’s DJ JS-1.
