Brooklyn Bodega Honors Video Music Box’s Ralph McDaniels

Video Music Box creator and entrepreneur Ralph “Uncle Ralph” McDaniels will be honored this Friday for his contributions to Hip Hop over the last two decades.

Starting the Video Music Box in 1983, McDaniels hosted the only cable television show that catered to an urban market. Along with premiering music videos from Hip Hop’s top acts, McDaniels also established the “on the spot” interviews and live performances that have become common place in covering music artists today. He later described this as similar to, “Soul Train, but ghetto style.”

The tribute show will take place at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York on February 20. Hosted by Brooklyn Bodega’s Wes Jackson, the event will feature over a dozen performers, including DXnext alum Homeboy Sandman, Children Of The Night and Eric Sosa. There is a donation of $10 at the door.
